Bwindi National Park is a bio-diverse, mountainous area in southwest Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley. With mist covered hillsides, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the oldest and most biologically diverse rain-forest, with over 400 species of plant. It has gorilla trekking as the major tourist attraction with 4 gorilla trekking trail-heads (Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo and Rushaga). 16 groups of mountain gorilla families have been habituated in this park and only 8 tourists booked permit per group per day. Gorilla trekking is the most expensive Tourism Activity in Africa; take the time to get the most in the form of a Memorable Experience that far exceeds the expectation. BUHOMA (Northwest)

The most popularly visited sector – this was the first sector with a habituated gorilla family – the Mubare group, and hence the first region open to tourists in 1993. It’s no wonder Buhoma has the highest number of hotels, and the most sought after sector by the majority of tourists. It’s also the nearest and easiest to reach sector when traveling overland from Kampala. Below are accommodations to choose from when trekking in Buhoma.

Mahogany Springs Lodge

Set back on the pristine waters of the Munyanga River and facing the Impenetrable forest the natural, Mahogany is a great base for gorilla trekking and bird watching. It is located in 2 km from the gate. The lodge has a very open and spacious main area which is a very attractive and welcome focal point to the camp. Surrounding the main area sit eight very well designed banana-thatched luxury suites. Engagi Lodge is a modern lodge in a breathtaking setting offering stunning views over the forest canopy. The lodge is situated in a large tract of land contiguous to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, and runs from the main road to the Park Headquarters down to the Munyaga River. The lodge has been built using local materials and a local workforce. It consists of just 8 en-suite cottages, spaced out and hidden in the foliage. Each cottage has either double or twin beds, a bathroom with flushing toilets and hot and cold running water. All have private verandahs where guests can enjoy their morning tea or coffee as they watch out over the forest canopy

Volcanoes Safaris Bwindi Lodge

Silverback Lodge

The latest addition to the Marasa Africa properties is Silverback Lodge, located in the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in western Uganda; only a 5 minute walk to the national park and has sweeping views of the valley and forests that surround it.  it consists of 12 rooms 1 single room, 4 double rooms, 7 twin rooms that were built and designed using local materials, such as forest vines, sisal rope and purple slate stone. Each room has an en-suite bathroom (with hot water showers) and comfortable chairs on the veranda for viewing the flora and fauna that make up the surroundings in the valley.

Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp

Buhoma Lodge

Buhoma Lodge, a top quality and intimate property, commands spectacular and uninterrupted views of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.  One of only two lodges situated within the National Park, a short walking distance from the meeting point for gorilla tracking and other activities in the area. An elevated central lounge area, complete with bar, dining and spa facilities, offers a cosy, comfortable environment to discuss the day’s activities around the fireplaces which add atmosphere and warmth in the cool evenings. The lodge consists of ten comfortable chalets that have been individually designed and carefully built using locally sourced materials wherever possible, without compromising levels of comfort. Each of your own private verandas allows wonderful views and vistas of the forest canopy of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

Inside the spacious chalets you will find large, comfortable beds and everything you need to make yourself at home.  The well-appointed and roomy en-suite bathroom with flush toilet contains a rain shower with a copious supply of hot water and equipped with locally produced natural ranges of complementary bathroom amenities. Some chalets also offer a bath-tub for relaxation and enjoyment after the day’s activities. Lake Kitandara Resort

Lake Kitandara Tented Camp is a mid-market accommodation, recently refurbished in a traditional African style.  It has a total of 20 comfortable tents which are self-contained and are named after Ugandan bird species. The camp has a very charming and friendly atmosphere and feels very much a home away from home. The Lodge welcomes you with the breathtaking scenery of the park and the soothing cool breeze from the Forest. It offers excellent standards of cuisine. There is a spacious dining and a well stocked bar in an elevated position above the plateau.

Buhoma Community Rest camp

Buhoma Community Rest Camp is a wonderful budget option located within the gates of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It offers 6 well-furnished and self-contained (en suite) safari tents, 3 self-contained cottages, and 2 non-self-contained twin cottage bandas. Nkuringo (southwest)

Claouds Mountain Gorilla

It is remote, it is beautiful and it is intimate. Rushaga (southern side)

Gorilla Safari Lodge

Gorilla Safari Lodge sits comfortably at the edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, 5 minute walk from the briefing point for trekking. Bold colours from indigenous flora greet you upon arrival, leaving a lasting first impression. The atmosphere is personable, and efficient staff ensures you looked after for the duration of your stay. This remote lodge comprises 18 individual units (sleeping 45 in total) each with private wooden balconies overlooking the wilderness. 3 of these units are inter-leading rooms, making them ideal for families. Ruhija is the sector of the part nearest to Rwanda. Easier way to get here, is to fly to Rwanda (Kigali International Airport) and then drive to cross the border in Uganda. Gorilla mist camp is a camp located in Bwindi impenetrable national park on the South western wing Ruhija Tracking area, where the gorilla families Oruzogo, Bitukura and Kyaguliro are found. It consists of 5 grass thatched luxurious bandas all self-contained with nature at its best comfort. It also has got 3 unique tented rooms all self-contained with solar electricity and running water all the time. Ruhija Gorilla Friends Resort Campsite is a locally initiated project started by community members of Kitojo parish in Kabale District of South Western Uganda. Ruhija Gorilla Friends was started in July 2008 with the intention of developing local community incomes through sustainable gorilla tourism by providing affordable accommodation to tourists in the area.

The lodge is close to the park gate and guests are able to walk to the gorilla briefing point. The three mountain gorilla habituated families of Bitukura, Oruzogo and Kyaguriro are tracked only a few kilometers from our campsite.  Ruhija Gorilla Friends Resort is one of the best budget lodges to stay in; with warm welcoming stuff who make one feel at their second home with intensive customer service. Canvass tents are mounted on raised platforms each with its own landing, and magical views of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
