9 Days Congo Nile Hike And Divide

This adventure takes you to explore the spectacular landscapes which include thousands of rolling hills, quiet natural beaches and the austere beauty of Rubona bay. Along the way you will discover quit community, banana and coffee plantations, hundreds of wooden bridges, and of course aligned typical African villages and thousands of smiles.

Day 1: Arrival

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, our experienced drive guide will be waiting for you with A step Into Nature Tours sign with your name on it. He will warmly welcome you, helps you with luggage, escort you to your chosen hotel and assist with check-in formalities. He will brief about your tour in the country of thousand hills. According to you time of arrival you will spend the night in Kigali or Gisenyi

Day 2: Gisenyi to Cyimbiri Guest house

After an early breakfast at our hotel and pre-departure briefing by your guide and direct you to the trail start point for the beginning of an incredible 4 days of adventure. Depart from Gisenyi (Bralirwa) at 7:00 am and start a 7 hours walk to Cyimbiri village, enjoy agricultural activities(coffee, cassava, beans, banana plantations,…) beautiful  landscapes and scenery around Lake Kivu, amazing rolling hills , enjoy the magnificent views of the area.  Overnight at Cyimbiri Guest House.

Day 3:  Cyimbiri to Kinunu Guest house

After breakfast at 7:30 am, you will resume your hiking for about 5 hours, Along the trail to Kinunu you will enjoy the best views of the surrounding, bird watching, fishing activities, landscapes all the way through coffee and banana plantations. From here you can enjoy an astonishing view of the sun on the lake shore and also take a swim in Lake kivu in case you to refresh naturally. Overnight at Kinunu Guest House.

Day 4: Kinunu to Musasa

After the breakfast at 8:00 am, you will walk for about 5 hours to Nkomero Center. On this hiking you will continue enjoying the beauty of Rwanda through its rolling hills while taking last pictures on your adventure to Congo Nile Trail, a visit to INGE-BAHO COOPERATIVE known for its weaving and woodcarving activities or Beek keeping activity. On your arrival to Nkomero Center you eat your delicious packed lunch. Overnight at Musasa Eco lodge.

Day 5: Musasa to Bumba

After breakfast, we will continue our journey. We will walk for 5 hours along Lake Kivu, interaction with the local community, enjoy the surrounding views and banana plantations. Follow the trail of Bumba Primary school with free Canopy walk along the Trail. Overnight at Bumba base camp or Hotel Dian Fossey – Nyiramacibiri Rutsiro -Branch

Day 6: Bumba to Rubengera junction

You will wake up early because you will have at least a minimum of 7 hours of walking to get to the junction Rubengera, following the track between fields of the community and climb the trail to the main road to Rubengera. At the junction asphalt Rubengera the best idea is to reach the city center of Kibuye. We go to Kibuye with public transportation. Overnight at Cormorant Lodge

                                    

Day 7: Boat riding on Lake Kivu and transfer to Nyungwe National Park

After breakfast you will go for a boat ride and visit different islands in Lake Kivu.  After lunch you will relax on the shore of the Lake and later transfer to Nyungwe National Park for Dinner and overnight.

Day8: The Congo Nile Divide Trail

The Congo-Nile Divide trail is a 42 km trail in the area where the sources of the Congo and Nile Rivers both are found within the Nyungwe and Kibira National Parks in Rwanda and Burundi. Streams and rivers flowing west end up in the Congo River while those flowing east end up in the Nile. About 1344 species of plants thrive within the area which also includes the 187 endemic species and 18 threatened species, about 123 species of mammals, which 19 are endemic and 14 are threatened, there are 43 reptile species 11 of which are endemic and over 267 bird species, 29 of these are endemic and 7 threatened.

After breakfast, you will go for hiking. This hike takes along the ridge with in the forest that separates the river basins. While hiking through this trail, never miss to catch a glimpse at variety of floral and faunal species like Angolan colobus, several bracken fields, sedge marshes, open fields, primary, secondary and bamboo forests. You will also be rewarded with the most astonishing scenic views, endless smiles and a memorable experience. Dinner and overnight at campsite

Day9: Congo Nile Divide and Departure

After a breakfast, you will continue to head to Cyangugu-Butare main road and drive to Kigali
